The republic of Suriname is located on the northeast coast of South-America.
Neighbouring countries are Frenh Guiana(east), Guiana (west), Brazil (south) and on the north the Atlantic Ocean borders the country.

Suriname is rich in flora and fauna. About three quarters of the country is covered with jungle. The jungle is part of the largest tropical rainforest, Amazonia. The area is still full of rare breeds. Besides the beautiful tropical rainforest, the country has also numerous rivers, which makes it an excellent place to fish in freshwater or brackish water.
Surinam features a unique mix of different cultures; Surinamese citizens have ancestors from all over the world. The various races in Surinam live peacefully together. Many Surinamese are very proud to have a Jewish synagogue and an Islamic mosque next to each other like brothers in Paramaribo.
Cultural diversity is reflected in the cuisine, the languages of Suriname, the religions and holidays. The five points of the yellow star in the flag of Suriname represent the five main groups.

Suriname has a tropical climate, divided in to four seasons. The small- and big rainy season and the small and large dry season. Tourism in Suriname is growing steadily. More and more tourists explore the natural beauty of Suriname. A big advantage for tourism is the rainforest in Suriname because it is fairly easily accessible compared to the rest of the Amazon.

Paramaribo
Paramaribo is the capital of Surinam and has about 300,000 inhabitants and an area of 183 km2. Paramaribo is the main economic trade centre of the country. The town is easily accessible, it is about a one hour’s drive from the airport.
Surinam is known for it’s diversity of ethnic, cultural, religious and culinary matters. Surinamese are generally very friendly and hospitable. Paramaribo is listed on the World Heritage List of UNESCO because of the many historic colonial buildings, which are located in the centre of the town. Besides these colonial buildings, there are also many modern shops and there is a wide range of shops, restaurants, eateries and bars.
Fishing
Suriname is a great country for fishing. Especially the Anjumara, the tarpon, the Redtailcatfish, Law Law of the piranha and peacock bass are very popular fishes to catch.
Hunting
In some areas of Suriname hunting is a general activity to provide food for the tubal villages. Tomahawk strongly supports all measures to observe the hunting calendar.
Camping
Camping in Suriname can be done in several ways. Vacationers sleep in a hammock, or in a tent. They wake up in the early morning to go fishing, hiking, sailing or hunting.
